It’s that time of year. Pre-season magazines are hitting shelves across the country, and fans everywhere are counting down the days to the beginning of the season. With less than 70 days to the first Husker game of 2014 (and 60 days to the first CFB game of the season) it’s time to start planning ahead!
Mark your calendars for two exciting events involving the Tampa Bay Huskers. On Saturday, July 19th from 3 – 7 PM, we’ll be hosting our annual open house event. We’ll once again be setting up shop at Beef O’ Brady’s on Dale Mabry Avenue. Come hang out with all your local Husker friends and family. We’ll have food and drink specials, a raffle, details on our 2014 season pass, and even a pinata for the kids!
Then, just a few weeks later, we’ll join the other Big Ten schools on Saturday, August 23rd for the annual Big Ten Tampa Bay Kickoff. And yes, there will even be a game to watch (it’s better than nothing)!!! We’re still awaiting details on this event, but the plan is for it to be at Ferg’s Sports Bar and Grill in St. Pete. For more details, see the flyer here.
Stay tuned for more info, and GO BIG RED!!!

After 12 years of serving as President of the Tampa Bay Huskers, Tony Gevo is stepping down. We’d like to thank Tony for his years of work, helping to direct the chapter over the past decade. Replacing Tony as chapter president will be Angie Robinson.
“I was raised in Ceresco, Nebraska and grew up listening to the Husker games at my grandparents farm. I served 5 years in the USMC and no matter where I was stationed, always managed to find the Husker channel somewhere! After the Corps, I moved back to Lincoln (could see the stadium from my back yard). In 2008 I transferred to Tampa with my job and found the Tampa Bay Huskers Alumni Association 2 years ago! Last year I had the privilege of attending the Alumni Leadership Conference with Tony and Jane in Lincoln.”
We’ve also assembled a new leadership team to assist in all chapter matters. Our 2014 – 2015 leadership team is as follows:
President: Angie Robinson
Vice President: Chandra Huggins
Treasurer: Jane Gevo
Web Master: Josh Eppert
We look forward to Angie and the new council’s leadership, and can’t wait to get the season started! GO BIG RED!!!
The TampaBay Huskers were well represented at the Gator Bowl, played on January 1st in Jacksonville, FL. With over 35 members of our Chapter present at the Marriott Sawgrass, the Husker Huddle and game you couldn’t go anywhere without running into one of our folks.
On New Year’s eve several members of the chapter mingled with the team and got autographs plus memorabilia. Cameron ran a raffle for “Hero’s Wish”, which benefits our vets, and we all had a great time at the Marriott pub. As with most games this year, it was a real thriller and the Huskers showed up to win! Tommy and the offense were in synch the whole game and the Blackshirts played their hearts out! For an opposing team to be in the Red Zone 7 times and only score field goals, for the most part, shows how hard the Defense wanted this one. It rained on us all day but I don’t think anyone cared! The Huskers won one; for us, themselves and for Bo.
Thanks for everyone’s support of the Team and our Chapter. We should have a great season to look forward to…Go Big Red!
It’s official; we’re playing Georgia in Jacksonville on Wednesday, New Year’s Day, at noon. We need a count, quickly, on who wants to attend as a group. We need your reply by this Thursday, December 12th! Ticket & Pricing info can be found on the PDF here. We’ll also have plenty of folks at the watch site as well! More info to come soon.

As a Chapter we really need to step up and have a great turnout for this event. We’ve rented the Clearwater Cinema Cafe and the producers are flying in for the screening. Right now we have 14 tickets sold and that doesn’t get us close to paying for the venue. The Cinema Cafe has asked for a count so they can staff their servers to take care of us. I’m requesting that each member of our Chapter please respond as to whether you’ll be attending this event on 11/17. This is a film that pays tribute to the Greatest Fans in College Football and you’re part of that legacy!

This film is a moving tribute to what Nebraska football has meant to our home state and to each of us as fans of The Big Red and you won’t want to miss this event.
