Game 4: Miami at Nebraska

After a dominating win last week at Fresno, the marquee game of the non-conference season is here, as the Miami Hurricanes travel to Lincoln to take on the Huskers for the first time since the 70’s. Kickoff is at 8PM, so show up and help us cheer on the Huskers as they look to improve to 4-0. Our watchsite is Beef O’Brady’s at 4516 S. Dale Mabry and a great time is guaranteed, so don’t sit at home; come join the TampaBay Huskers at Beef’s!

Game 3: Nebraska at Fresno State

photo(5)A Message from Angie Robinson:

Wow, what a close one on Saturday, SCARY STUFF.  Being at the game and attending the leadership conference was an honor, listening to some of the students that had the Legends Scholarship brought me to tears. The program, besides giving the 1k scholarship that the University matches, also provides mentoring both academically and socially.  The Legends Scholarship students have a 93% retention rate! What a great gift we are giving them and I thank each one of you for all your support. Our Chapter won the Corny Scholarship Award of Excellence! We tied with Las Vegas so we were each honored and given a plaque. First time ever for a tie!

Now, after all that.. I don’t believe we will run a full watchparty this Saturday as the game starts at 1030 pm.  If anyone is interested in going anyway, please reply to me and we can work something out with Beef’s.  If we have enough interest I will run the raffles as usual.  That being said, I would LOVE to see a full house for the Miami game!!! I am planning a few extra fun things for the Miami game on the 20th.. more info will follow.

Game 2: McNeese State at Nebraska

Last week, the Huskers came out and dominated Florida Atlantic from start to finish. The offense looked crisp and efficient while piling up nearly 800 yards and 55 points. The Blackshirts were swarming after the first FAU drive, holding the Owls to 200 yards and 7 points (a season opener low under Bo Pelini). This week, the Huskers take on the McNeese State Cowboys, ranked #7 in the FCS. Look for the reserves to get some time as Nebraska builds depth in preparation for the late road trip to Fresno State next weekend.

Angie will be back in Lincoln for NAA meetings, so Josh and Don will be onsite. Join us to cheer the Huskers on while enjoying great food and drink specials. Our watchsite is Beef O’Brady’s at 4516 S. Dale Mabry and a great time is guaranteed, so don’t sit at home; come join the TampaBay Huskers at Beef’s!

It’s finally here. Game 1: FAU vs Nebraska

Beefs Window 2014Finally…. it’s here. After a long offseason full of recruiting, conditioning, and cats, the 2014 College Football season begins this week. The Huskers look to build off a bowl win against Georgia in January, and be in play for the inaugural College Football Playoff this season.

Join the TampaBay Huskers, Tampa’s official Nebraska Alumni Association chapter, for the Huskers first game of the season against the Florida Atlantic Owls. Kickoff is on Saturday, August 30th, at 3:30 Eastern. Our watchsite is Beef O’Brady’s at 4516 S. Dale Mabry and a great time is guaranteed, so don’t sit at home; come join the TampaBay Huskers at Beef’s!

Tampa Bay Huskers At The Big Ten Kickoff

Save the Date(s)!!!

It’s that time of year. Pre-season magazines are hitting shelves across the country, and fans everywhere are counting down the days to the beginning of the season. With less than 70 days to the first Husker game of 2014 (and 60 days to the first CFB game of the season) it’s time to start planning ahead!

Mark your calendars for two exciting events involving the Tampa Bay Huskers. On Saturday, July 19th from 3 – 7 PM, we’ll be hosting our annual open house event. We’ll once again be setting up shop at Beef O’ Brady’s on Dale Mabry Avenue. Come hang out with all your local Husker friends and family. We’ll have food and drink specials, a raffle, details on our 2014 season pass, and even a pinata for the kids!

Then, just a few weeks later, we’ll join the other Big Ten schools on Saturday, August 23rd for the annual Big Ten Tampa Bay Kickoff. And yes, there will even be a game to watch (it’s better than nothing)!!! We’re still awaiting details on this event, but the plan is for it to be at Ferg’s Sports Bar and Grill in St. Pete. For more details, see the flyer here.

Stay tuned for more info, and GO BIG RED!!!

New Tampa Bay Huskers Chapter Leadership

After 12 years of serving as President of the Tampa Bay Huskers, Tony Gevo is stepping down. We’d like to thank Tony for his years of work, helping to direct the chapter over the past decade.  Replacing Tony as chapter president will be Angie Robinson.

IMG_3588 (2)“I was raised in Ceresco, Nebraska and grew up listening to the Husker games at my grandparents farm. I served 5 years in the USMC and no matter where I was stationed, always managed to find the Husker channel somewhere! After the Corps, I moved back to Lincoln (could see the stadium from my back yard). In 2008 I transferred to Tampa with my job and found the Tampa Bay Huskers Alumni Association 2 years ago!  Last year I had the privilege of attending the Alumni Leadership Conference with Tony and Jane in Lincoln.”

We’ve also assembled a new leadership team to assist in all chapter matters. Our 2014 – 2015 leadership team is as follows:

President: Angie Robinson
Vice President: Chandra Huggins
Treasurer:  Jane Gevo
Web Master: Josh Eppert

Tony Gevo
Samant Sharma
Don Hansen
Jeff Miller
Sherry Skovgaard
Ervin Skovgaard

We look forward to Angie and the new council’s leadership, and can’t wait to get the season started! GO BIG RED!!!
