The Huskers are 4-0, and notched a nice win on the road in Evanston for the Big Ten opener. This week, the Illinois Fighting Illini head to Lincoln for a 3:30 kickoff for homecoming. Come early and grab a seat as the Huskers take on Illinois and in this Big Ten West division matchup.
What a game last week… From the stopped 2 point conversions, to DPE’s punt return, to that last touchdown drive, and the Blackshirts stopping Oregon on 4th down, the Huskers got a win against a good opponent.
With Oregon and the non-conference slate in the rear view mirror, the Huskers don their all white alternate uniforms and travel to Evanston Illinois this week to take on the Northwestern Wildcats in the Big Ten opener. Kickoff is at 7:30 PM, so come early and grab a seat as the Huskers take on the Wildcats and look to start the conference slate with a W.
Last week against Wyoming the Huskers blew it open in the 4th quarter and forced a total of 6 turnovers on the way to beating the Cowboys 52-17. With the first two games in the bag, the Huskers now look to face the Oregon Ducks as they head to Lincoln for a 3:30 ABC national kickoff.
Oregon’s high flying offense will be a stiff test for the Blackshirts, but the Ducks vulnerable defense will definitely be challenged by Nebraska’s offense. Kickoff is at 3:30 PM, so join us at Buffalo Wild Wings in Oldsmar as the Huskers take on the Ducks in the biggest Non-Conference game in Lincoln for quite some time.
Next up is Wyoming, please join us at Noon to see your Huskers take on Craig Bohl’s Wyoming Cowboys. Thanks to all 93 of you that showed up to our first game watch of the season – not bad for a night game! I think all of us enjoyed the new watchsite and new merchandise.
I want to issue a point of clarification on the season passes. We were initially told that the 10% discount would apply to the entire food and bar tab, but upon further inspection, alcohol is not included. To compensate those people that purchased season passes with the discount of alcohol in mind, we will compensate those passholders with a free TB Husker cotton t-shirt, simply present your passes to a board member at the next event. Thanks to those that participated, all proceeds benefit our University scholarship fund, see recent recipients here.
The pads are popping, and fall practice is in full swing. Three weeks from now, we’ll be watching our Huskers take the field in the first game of the 2016 season. We do have some changes for this year, including our watchsite. We took your feedback during and suggestions after the offseason, and we came to the conclusion that our location last year just didn’t meet the standards we were looking for as a group. Over the past few months, we’ve reached out to a variety of locations, and followed up on all of your leads, and found a new home…
Starting this season, we’ll be meet at the Buffalo Wild Wings off of Hillsborough Avenue in Oldsmar. They offered us reserved seating, a discount on all checks with our season pass, valet parking, and more!
Announced earlier this morning, Nebraska released more game times of its 2016 schedule including two prime-time home matchups. The Huskers will open the season against Fresno State under the lights September 3 at 8 p.m. In addition, the Huskers will kickoff @ Northwestern at 7:30PM on September 24th, and at home against Minnesota at 7:30PM on Novbember 12th.
The Huskers’ matchups at Wisconsin on Oct. 29 and at Ohio State on Nov. 5 will both be televised by either ABC, ESPN or ESPN2. The NU-Wisconsin game will kick off at 7, 8 or 9 p.m. ET, while the Huskers’ game with the Buckeyes is set for a 8PM ET kick. The network designations for these games will be made closer to game day. Also, it was reported by ESPN that the Huskers season opener at home against Fresno State will be played under the lights at 7 or 8PM and broadcast on BTN. We’ll update the site once we know more.
TampaBay Huskers, as you know, our chapter raises money via our raffles during the season that we use to fund a yearly scholarship program for kids from Florida who attend the University of Nebraska. Below, you’ll find the recipients of the last 3 scholarships we have handed out. We couldn’t do this without you, so we would like to thank you for your support, and GO BIG RED!
Claire Welsh- Naples, Florida.
What’s your major/minor: My major is Biology, and I’m on the Pre-Med track.
What UNL activities are you involved in: I’m involved with Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, Greekside, and YoungLife here at UNL.
What are the ways this scholarship has helped you: This scholarship has helped me meet and become friends with other students who have received this same scholarship, and it has helped me meet upperclassmen who are able to help me with my classes and academic life in general.
What’s your message to those who funded your scholarship: My message to those who funded my scholarship: “Thank you so much for your generous contributions to my educational career, I’m so grateful and appreciate it so much. Because of scholarships like this one, it was so much more attainable for me to attend an out of state school.”
Kaytlin Powell – Palmetto, Fla.
What’s your major/minor: BFA in Art with an emphasis in Graphic Design
What UNL activities are you involved in: OASIS, Scarlet Guard, and Art League
Why did you choose UNL: UNL is located in a state that I’ve never been to, plus I really enjoy the laid back lifestyle of Lincoln compared to the larger cities I’ve lived in. UNL really just nailed a lot of the stuff I was looking for, which included a more ‘traditional’ style of architecture, large student body, top graphic design program, and a multitude of different things really.
What are the ways this scholarship has helped you: What are the ways this scholarship has helped you:The scholarship has really helped the burden of the out of state tuition that UNL has ($21,000 if you were curious) along with the $10,000 per year housing that we have to use for one year.
What’s your message to those who funded your scholarship: Please don’t stop donating to this scholarship. There are many students from our area of Florida that are dying to get out of state but can’t afford to nor have the grades to land a huge scholarship from a university like myself. Every little bit of change matters so much to those who struggle to make ends meet. This scholarship really does help out, even though many students look at it as just a small thousand dollar help.
Kiera Welch – Niceville, FL
Major: Athletic Training
UNL Activities: I am currently an active member of Alpha Omicron Pi and I am working on getting involved in the College Republicans club.
Why I Chose UNL: I chose UNL because of the impact the staff and the university itself had on me when I came for my official campus tour. Moving here from Florida, I wanted a college that I would feel at home at, and Nebraska is it. They also gave me a very generous scholarship and UNL was one of the best schools for my program of interest.
Ways the Legends Scholarship has benefited me: This scholarship has majorly benefited me. It has helped me to be able to meet others with the same scholarship and it has also allowed me to come to the school that I wanted.
My message to those who funded my scholarship: This scholarship program is such a benefit to the students that receive it. I am beyond grateful to have received this scholarship.
Dear Tampa Bay Huskers,
I can’t believe it’s already April, Spring Football practice is halfway over, and the annual Red-White game is 2 weeks away. We had been waiting for official word to decide whether or not to hold a watchsite party for this year’s spring game, and it was recently released that there will be no live TV for the game, but it will be streamed online and replayed later on BTN. We will not be hosting a watchsite party for the game, but we did want to get the info out to you on how you can watch it at home.
Kickoff is scheduled for 2PM Eastern, and the game will be streamed live on BTN2GO.com. The only caveat is that you must be an active subscriber to one of the BTN approved TV providers, but both BrightHouse and Verizon customer should have access. For those wanting to catch the replay, the game is scheduled to be re-aired on BTN at the following times:
Saturday, 4/16 – 5pm Eastern
Sunday, 4/17 – 5am Eastern
Monday, 4/18 – 2:30pm Eastern
Tuesday, 4/19 – 3am Eastern
