See the latest recipients of our scholarship fund!

TampaBay Huskers, as you know, our chapter raises money via our raffles during the season that we use to fund a yearly scholarship program for kids from Florida who attend the University of Nebraska. Below, you’ll find the recipients of the last 3 scholarships we have handed out. We couldn’t do this without you, so we would like to thank you for your support, and GO BIG RED!

What’s your major/minor: My major is Biology, and I’m on the Pre-Med track.
What UNL activities are you involved in: I’m involved with Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, Greekside, and YoungLife here at UNL.
What are the ways this scholarship has helped you: This scholarship has helped me meet and become friends with other students who have received this same scholarship, and it has helped me meet upperclassmen who are able to help me with my classes and academic life in general.
What’s your message to those who funded your scholarship: My message to those who funded my scholarship: “Thank you so much for your generous contributions to my educational career, I’m so grateful and appreciate it so much. Because of scholarships like this one, it was so much more attainable for me to attend an out of state school.”

Kaytlin Powell – Palmetto, Fla.
What’s your major/minor: BFA in Art with an emphasis in Graphic Design
What UNL activities are you involved in: OASIS, Scarlet Guard, and Art League
Why did you choose UNL: UNL is located in a state that I’ve never been to, plus I really enjoy the laid back lifestyle of Lincoln compared to the larger cities I’ve lived in. UNL really just nailed a lot of the stuff I was looking for, which included a more ‘traditional’ style of architecture, large student body, top graphic design program, and a multitude of different things really.
What are the ways this scholarship has helped you: What are the ways this scholarship has helped you:The scholarship has really helped the burden of the out of state tuition that UNL has ($21,000 if you were curious) along with the $10,000 per year housing that we have to use for one year.
What’s your message to those who funded your scholarship: Please don’t stop donating to this scholarship. There are many students from our area of Florida that are dying to get out of state but can’t afford to nor have the grades to land a huge scholarship from a university like myself. Every little bit of change matters so much to those who struggle to make ends meet. This scholarship really does help out, even though many students look at it as just a small thousand dollar help.

image002Kiera Welch – Niceville, FL
Major: Athletic Training
UNL Activities: I am currently an active member of Alpha Omicron Pi and I am working on getting involved in the College Republicans club.
Why I Chose UNL: I chose UNL because of the impact the staff and the university itself had on me when I came for my official campus tour. Moving here from Florida, I wanted a college that I would feel at home at, and Nebraska is it. They also gave me a very generous scholarship and UNL was one of the best schools for my program of interest.
Ways the Legends Scholarship has benefited me: This scholarship has majorly benefited me. It has helped me to be able to meet others with the same scholarship and it has also allowed me to come to the school that I wanted.
My message to those who funded my scholarship: This scholarship program is such a benefit to the students that receive it. I am beyond grateful to have received this scholarship.

Spring Game Update!

nebraska-spring-game-2015Dear Tampa Bay Huskers,
I can’t believe it’s already April, Spring Football practice is halfway over, and the annual Red-White game is 2 weeks away. We had been waiting for official word to decide whether or not to hold a watchsite party for this year’s spring game, and it was recently released that there will be no live TV for the game, but it will be streamed online and replayed later on BTN. We will not be hosting a watchsite party for the game, but we did want to get the info out to you on how you can watch it at home.

Kickoff is scheduled for 2PM Eastern, and the game will be streamed live on BTN2GO.com. The only caveat is that you must be an active subscriber to one of the BTN approved TV providers, but both BrightHouse and Verizon customer should have access. For those wanting to catch the replay, the game is scheduled to be re-aired on BTN at the following times:

Saturday, 4/16 – 5pm Eastern
Sunday, 4/17 – 5am Eastern
Monday, 4/18 – 2:30pm Eastern
Tuesday, 4/19 – 3am Eastern
Tuesday, 4/19 – 6am Eastern
Tuesday, 4/19 – 10am Eastern
Tuesday, 4/19 – 10pm Eastern
Thursday, 4/21 – 10am Eastern
Friday, 4/22 – 2am Eastern

Enjoy the game, and lets hope for a clean game with no injuries! Also, stay tuned for a post spring email update from us, which should hit your inbox before the end of April

la-sp-1108-nebraska-michigan-state-20151108Oh what a great game last Saturday. The Huskers got a much needed against #6 Michigan State in an atmospheric game that will be remembered for quite a long time. It was the highest ranked team the Huskers have beaten since Oklahoma in 2001. With the upset completed, Nebraska heads to New Jersey this weekend to take on the Rutgers Scarlet knights. With a win here, a showdown with Iowa takes on a lot of importance for this young team, including another top ranked opponent, and a chance to lock up a bowl bid.

Northwestern vs Nebraska, this Saturday at Noon!!!

nebraskaalt1

Dear Tampa Bay Huskers,
Last week’s turnout was less than desirable. It takes time to turn a program and get adjusted to a new coaching staff. After some early season struggles, it appears that the Huskers have turned the page as they look to carry the momentum forward at home vs. a strong Northwestern team. The Huskers are seconds away from being undefeated, and after the performance last week against Minnesota, it looks like things are finally starting to click

I call on all of us as fans to step up and support the Big Red, our chapter, and new watch site. I know the season has not gone the way we would have liked, but this is our team, our State, our Huskers.

Thank You, and GO BIG RED!!!
